Restaurant Session (in Düsseldorf): 20° Restobar

Having forgotten my earrings at my hairdresser in Dusseldorf, we had the perfect excuse to go back again next day to pick them up and combine it with dinner at the 20° Restobar from the chef Macarena de Castro.

Enjoying the beautiful Summer evening, we stayed at the terrace.
 
 The inside, with tables and couches.
 
To drink, beer for Roger, gin tonic for me - with gin Mare and tonic from Fever Tree Mediterranean.
 
As starters, we did a tapas selection: delicious!
Bread with homemade aioli.

Croquetas with ham. Love them!

Patatas bravas with spicy sauce.

Before the main dish, cocktail time! Pornstar Martini: Ketel One vodka, vanille de Madagaskar, passionfruit, lime, passoa and cava. Strong but very nice!
 
As main dish, solomillo with...

...a fennel salad with pine nuts

Restaurant Session (in Helmond, Netherlands): De Rosario

  
Lunch at restaurant De Rozario ✨, from the chef Jermain De Rozario.
 
Love the decoration!
 
The graffitis bring a twist...

...to the classic decoration. Cool!
 
As aperitif, a watermelon kombucha.
 
It came with spicy crackers...
 
...and a great dip. Delicious!!

 
 As amuse bouche...

 
...sweet sour pumpkin, pumpkin mousse and passion fruit, sesame seeds. Great combination!
 
Steam bun with an excelent dip: deeper in the dip, stronger the chilly taste (so that you can control how hot you want it 😊). Really nice!
 
Bitter lemon - as I had far too much wine the night before ;-)
 
Roger chose as starter the Daikon - carpaccio grilled daikon, quinoa, fresh yuzu salad, smoked chilli emulsion, kletskop crumble and roasted wild rice. He loved it!
 
My starter: Langoustine & Pumpkin. Langoustine tartar, sweet and sour pumpkin, pumpkin toffee, quinoa, vadouvan emulsion, orange, shore crab and yellow curry sauce, kletskop crumble. An explosion of flavours, loved it!
 
 The main dish: Beef Tenderloin, served in three dishes. Barbecued beef tenderloin, abon, sweet potatoes, turnip cabbage and white soy sauce.
 
Delicious and looking...

 ...really nice!
 
For dessert, Caramel and Nuts. Tonka ice cream, caramel foam, pork belly popcorn, barbecued pineapple, nut crumble, maldon salt and chocolate crunch. Great!
 
We loved the restaurant, very creative dishes and full of flavour! The only negative point was the pace: as we chose a la carte, we expected the pace to be faster but it took quite long (so much that we skip coffee). But otherwise, great gastronomic experience!!

Visiting Helmond (in the Netherlands)

 
From Vreeland, in our way back to Aachen, we went to visit Helmond.

And, yes, house cubes were first build in Helmond and only afterwards in Rotterdam! Both sites designed by the architect Piet Blom.
 
 Probably not be very practical to decorate inside, but it looks really cool :-)

Fresh orange juice is always a nice way to start the day :-)

...the jams and the typical Dutch chocolate sprinkles :-)
